The Best Bean To Cup

This one has been a long time coming, and even at this run time I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. As I said, we didn’t touch on the apps because apps cause me emotional pain most of the time. (Also, we didn’t want to make a 2 hour video…). *We unfortunately managed to leave out the Gaggia Accademia UX/UI review from this edit so if you’re interested in that, we have uploaded it separately here: https://youtu.be/zgybPrP1YJA

Here’s the links to the machines we tested:

  1. We somehow unintentionally managed to leave out the UX/UI segment for the Gaggia Accademia on this edit, so we've uploaded that section separately here instead: https://youtu.be/zgybPrP1YJA

  3. I feel you did not give a fair review of Miele I own this particular model and is superb you can warm your mugs it has a app so you can turn it on when you wake up in the morning when you are in the rush it has the best self-cleaning and we as a big family have different tastes so every one can have its own type of bean it is also makes tea that others don't. It may not brew the best coffee but it is good enough for 99% of people. An UI is fast responsive and it has profiles so one can set coffee to its own desire.

Would have loved to see the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige tested in this line up.

  7. Hi James, thanks for sharing your thoughts. For automatic espresso machine, one important aspect often forgotten is the maintenance part of the machine. While I do agree that Jura produce good quality coffee and have nice design (I own a Jura Piano White by the way), I hate the maintenance of the Jura. Everything is fully automated and you can't access the percolation unit to fully clean without voiding the warranty, forcing the casing and breaking some parts.
In my machine, after 2 years of use, the coffee taste became less and less good due to moisture that has not been cleaned my the system and the machine didn't work fine as it was due the coffee.
Well, with the expiration of the warranty, I've opened the machine, break some stuff … but I can now perform a nice cleanup of the machine and it is working much better now (5 years of duties).

  8. I am a Latte man myself and have had a Miele CM6350 for the last few years. A fantastic machine with a great self-cleaning function for milk drinks.

  9. Mr Hoffman, I appreciate your videos. It should be noted, if YOU have a hard time with it then how would we be any better? Haha. I do agree with your choice. I use the breville oracle touch and the Kira was similar. My issue with all of these machines is they’re expensive and when they brake, your entire investment is down the drain. I’m starting to think, if I have a separate grinder and machine , at least if something breaks down, I’m not out as much money ….. which has happened twice with my oracle touch. FYI I clean is well, purge, rinse out the brewing head and wipe it down after each use, do my filter switching, occasional rinse cycle etc.

  10. Used delonghi machines for ages. Until I had a new kitchen and needed a change in colour and finish to please the eye. Switched to Miele and now when I drink delonghi coffee, I just wanna puke.

  12. miele has a smaller machine too. you would have probably preferred that one. as for Jura, it has a whole forest of machines at various price and quality levels. I happen to own jura impressa j9 in piano white and it's really something to look at. Decent coffee too.

  15. I could never ever imagine wanting to clean one of these machines. How can these machines possibly clean out the old coffee before adding fresh coffee to make a new shot?
Cleaning out the whole milk injection system to avoid spoilage is also just a nightmare in my mind. These machines are most certainly not automatic and in my opinion much more work at the end of the day than having dedicated equipment. Finally I feel like the price of these does not justify the user experience and I cannot imagine many of these are sold. You're paying for the r&d on terrible UI.

  17. It's interesting, we have a Philips-Saeco Xelsis machine at the office which is identical to the Gaggia one, but with a different front panel design and UI… Quite a dependable little machine, though yes, the output is not remarkable, and adjusting the grind size is a pain in the butt…

  18. We had the Miele at my previous employer, absolutely horrid coffee (I do think it didn't get maintained very well) and the main reason why I switched to drinking tea whenever I was in the office!

  19. Would love to see a comparison with the Gaggia Magenta Prestige considering it’s a lower price point and it has the option for auto milk or a steam wand. It would give the convenience to an everyday user and the ability to learn frothing craft when time permits

  23. for some of these machines i think the difficulty of adjusting the settings is a feature, not a bug. I see these machines as being far more useful in an office setting than in a home. and in an office you want the interface to be as simple as possible so brian from accounting doesnt fuck it up for everyone by screwing with the grind settings

  27. I’ve had the Jura for years however what is not covered here is the MOLD issues. I had my machine cleaned and fixed a few times, and even gone as far as taking the machine apart myself successfully to clean it and I can actually say that after doing that I can assure you that cleaning ANY of the Jura machines MOLD is the biggest and worst aspect for this particular kind of device. Health issues aside, MOLD is not something consumers should have to contend with, and because the brew group is so far back into the machine it is literally impossible to really clean or prevent even if you regularly empty the bin and tray.

  31. I think you should have tested the Braville!! Sure to call the semi-automatic but that's because they wanted people who didn't know how to make a special Olympics a good at it they want to take the the room for error out of the way for them but still make them feel that they were doing something. But the machine really did everything. I mean moving to Porter filter over from the grinder to the head is not really making espresso and even the milk is automatic, in fact the milk is automatic but you have more control over it than any other super automatics do

  36. I have a Jura machine sub £1k bean to cup that makes acceptable coffee and ok ish espresso of a type but the smart filters advised for the water tanks are ext ornate – £12 – 14 each and only last around 5- 6 weeks normal use and you still have to buy cleaning tablets – I find cheapest running to fill water tank from brita jug we use for kettle anyway and descale in traditional way as it has this program and forget the profit making filters from Jura –

  40. I just found your channel because I am trying to find a good coffee maker and I stumbled upon you. I adore you and your channel. ❤ On a side note, I'd like a newer automatic brew over (if that is what it's called) and wondered what you'd recommend. No connoisseur of coffee like you but would like a good hot cup that just taste good & not bitter. 🙂
